When the System Crumbles
A story never told in full... until now
What happens when everything you built your life on collapses?
And what does that have to do with your business?
I’m about to tell you a story I’ve never fully told in public.
It’s a story about three cages
one religious
one corporate
one I built myself.
It’s a story about enslavement disguised as security.
It’s a story about what happens when the structures you depend on collapse.
And it’s a story about finding freedom on the other side.
But here’s why I’m telling you this story:
Because after years of helping business owners escape the same cage I did, I’ve recognized a pattern.
The cage you’re in looks exactly like the cages I escaped.
Different context.
Different industry.
Different circumstances.
But the same pattern.
The same enslavement.
The same fear.
And once you see the pattern, you can’t unsee it.
What This Series Is About
Over the next 9 weeks, I’m going to take you on a journey.
Parts 1-4: My Story
Part 1: The religious system I escaped—and why it was a cage, not a community.
Part 2: When everything fell apart—losing my religious community and my corporate career in the same year.
Part 3: What I discovered about grace—and how it changed everything.
Part 4: What I believe now, and why it’s nothing like what I was taught.
Parts 5-8: The Connection to Your Business
Part 5: From religious freedom to business freedom, the next chapter of my story.
Part 6: Why I help business owners escape the same cage I did, the parallel between religious, corporate, and business enslavement.
Part 7: Are you enslaved by the business you built?
a diagnostic framework to assess whether you’re actually free.Part 8: What if your business could free you instead of trap you?
the invitation to explore a new way forward.
Part 9: The Cost of Freedom (And the Dream I’m Building Anyway)
Why I’m Writing This
I’m writing this series for three reasons:
1. Because I Had to Answer a Question That Changed My Life
When my religious community disintegrated and my corporate career ended in the same year, I was forced to confront a question I’d never had to answer before:
“What do I actually believe?”
Not what I was taught. Not what the system said. Not what would keep me in good standing.
What did I actually believe?
That question terrified me. But it also set me free.
And I’ve spent the past several years helping business owners answer a similar question:
“Are you actually free?”
Not theoretically. Not “kind of.” Actually free.
Can you step away from your business without it falling apart? Do decisions get made without you? Does your business feel solid—or fragile?
If you hesitated, you’re not free. You’re trapped.
And this series is about helping you see the cage—and find the way out.
2. Because I Recognized a Pattern
After years of coaching business owners, I started seeing the same pattern over and over:
Business owners who built something to gain freedom—but ended up enslaved by it.
They’re the approval bottleneck for everything. They can’t step away. They’ve built a job, not a business.
And it hit me:
That’s the same pattern I experienced in my religious community and my corporate career.
A system that promised security but demanded conformity.
An identity tied to performance and approval.
A fear that if you step back, everything collapses.
Different cage. Same enslavement.
And once I saw the pattern, I couldn’t unsee it.
3. Because I Believe Freedom Is Possible
I escaped two cages—religious and corporate. Then I had to escape the business cage I built for myself.
And I’ve helped other business owners do the same.
Freedom is possible.
But it requires three things:
Honesty: Confronting the reality of your situation.
Structure: Rebuilding on a foundation that works without you.
Letting Go: Trusting the foundation you’ve built and stepping back to lead.
That’s the path I walked. That’s the path I help others walk.
And this series is an invitation to explore what that could look like for you.
Who This Series Is For
This series is for you if:
You’ve ever felt trapped by a system that was supposed to free you (religious, corporate, or business).
You’re a business owner who’s stuck—the bottleneck, the approval machine, the one who can’t step away.
You’re tired of hustle culture, guru advice, and hype-driven solutions that don’t actually work.
You’re ready to confront the reality of your situation and explore what freedom could actually look like.
You value honesty over platitudes, structure over shortcuts, and relationships over transactions.
This series is not for you if:
You’re looking for quick fixes, marketing hacks, or “10X your revenue” promises.
You’re not willing to confront hard truths about your business or your life.
You’re comfortable staying in the cage.
What You’ll Get from This Series
By the end of this 9-part series, you’ll:
Understand the cage pattern — and recognize whether you’re trapped by a religious system, a corporate job, or the business you built.
See the parallel — between my story of religious/corporate enslavement and your experience as a business owner.
Assess your reality — using a diagnostic framework to determine whether you’re actually free or just convincing yourself you are.
Discover the path to freedom — the same frameworks and principles that helped me escape and that I use to help business owners find liberation.
Explore what’s possible — what your business could look like if it actually freed you instead of trapped you.
This is lived experience.
I’m not writing from a place of academic knowledge or borrowed wisdom. I’m writing from the trenches.
From the collapse, the grief, the rebuilding, and the freedom on the other side.
A Warning
This series will challenge you.
It will ask you to confront uncomfortable questions about:
The systems you’ve depended on.
The identity you’ve built.
The fear that’s keeping you trapped.
It will not be easy.
But if you’re ready to stop convincing yourself that you’re fine when you’re not, if you’re ready to confront the cage and find the way out, this series is for you.
How to Follow Along
Here’s how this will work:
New parts will drop every week for the next 9 weeks.
Each part builds on the previous one, so I recommend reading them in order.
At the end of each part, I’ll include questions for reflection to help you apply what you’re reading to your own life and business.
You can engage at any time - reply to any email, reach out directly, or just sit with the questions.
It actually helps me a lot if you go to the blog and comment/engage on the post.

And if you know someone who’s trapped—by a religious system, a corporate job, or the business they built… share this series with them.
What’s Coming Next Week
Part 1: The System I Escaped
Next week, I’ll tell you about the religious system I grew up in, and why it was (for the most part) a wonderful community inside a cage.
You’ll learn:
What Pharisaical religion actually is (and why it’s alive and well today).
The difference between a denomination and a cult (it’s a spectrum, not a binary).
The warning signs I missed.
What happened when the structure collapsed.
It’s not a comfortable story.
But it’s a necessary one.
Because you can’t understand the path to freedom until you understand the nature of the cage.
The Question That Started It All
I’ll leave you with the question that changed my life:
“What do I actually believe?”
Not what I was taught.
Not what the system said.
Not what would keep me in good standing.
What do I actually believe?
I couldn’t answer that question honestly while I was still in the cage.
But when the cage collapsed, I had no choice.
And answering that question… honestly, painfully, courageously… set me free.
Over the next 9 weeks, I’m going to ask you a similar question:
“Are you actually free?”
Not theoretically.
Not “kind of.”
Actually free.
And if you’re not, I’m going to show you the way out.
Part 1 drops next week. Subscribe now so you don’t miss it.
Questions to Ponder Before We Begin:
Have you ever felt trapped by a system that was supposed to free you?
What cage are you in right now—religious, corporate, business, or something else?
Are you ready to confront the truth about your situation?
